Install of new Stainless-Steel Flash Cyclone and Piping spools during the annual shutdown in March 2019.
Key Features:
- Stainless Steel (304) Cyclone.
- In effect a vessel within a vessel, with complex internals requiring inspections.
- To hydro test Cyclone special cradles were built and used.
- The design called for 4 plates at the support of the vessel, PFS had a modified design approved using a large doubler plate at each support, which eliminated the risk of distortion to vessel wall.
- Complex nozzles and manways were required.
Challenges:
- Removal of old and installing new Cyclone surrounded by process equipment, structure, platforms and piping. A whole mezzanine platform had to be removed and replaced.
- Design Scope to fabricate in 2 pieces. PFS made it in one piece, cutting down shut installation time significantly.
- Rigging done at night to minimize disruption to operations.
- Designed and fabricated nozzles did not fit existing piping. New spools were made to ensure proper fit.
- With all these challenges PFS still met OJI Target operational dates.
